RIGHT BARRIER – 40 MIL is a rolled self-adhering air/vapor and liquid moisture barrier. Its unique formulation and construction makes it a reliable, cost effective and versatile product. It is composed of a nominally 36 MIL thick layer of barrier membrane on a heavy duty, four-MIL thick, cross-laminated polyethylene carrier film with a release liner for ease of application.
• Exceeds the requirements of the Massachusetts Commercial Energy Code \
for the Building Envelope Systems
• Meets CAN/SGSB-51-33, Type 1 Water Vapor Permeance Requirements
• 2005 National Building Code of Canada
• ABAA Section 07261 Self-Adhering Air and Vapor Barrier Specification
RIGHT BARRIER – 40 MIL self-adhering air/vapor and liquid moisture barrier is a cost-effective material used primarily for applications to both cavity wall and masonry wall construction. RIGHT BARRIER – 40 MIL works well on interior and exterior gypsum board, Styrofoam, primed steel, aluminum mill finish, anodized aluminum, primed galvanized metal, drywall, and plywood. RIGHT BARRIER – 40 MIL provides an effective barrier that reduces condensation and increases efficiency in insulation.
• Provides excellent protection as a tough barrier that won't shrink, sag, dry
out, crack, or rot
• Offers a quick and easy-to-apply system
• Components work together for complete waterproofing protection
• Easy handling
• Self-heals when damage is sustained under normal use applications, i.e.
when penetrated with self-tapping screw
• Low temperature version (Right Barrier XLT) can be applied at minimum
temperatures of 0° F (-18° C)
• One 38.5" wide x 75' long roll per carton
• May be cut to desired width
Coverage is approximately 240 sq ft (22.3 m²). Net coverage when lapped 2" (5.1 cm) is 228 sq ft (21.1 m²)
TEMPERATURE: Apply in dry, fair weather when the air and surface temperatures are above 40° F (4° C). Do not apply to frozen concrete.
SURFACE PREPARATION: Remove any sharp protrusions and repair all defects. All surfaces where RIGHT BARRIER – 40 MIL will be applied must be clean of oil, dust, and excess mortar. Concrete must be cured a minimum of 14 days and must be dry before RIGHT BARRIER – 40 MIL is applied. If the concrete had a curing compound applied to it, the curing compound must be a clear, resin-based compound, without oil, wax or pigments. Prepare the substrate per the manufacturer's instructions prior to the application of the membrane. Apply RIGHT PRIME to surfaces that will be covered within one working day. If left exposed overnight, additional RIGHT-PRIME must be applied.
APPLICATION: Apply membrane to the surface (that has been covered with RIGHT-PRIME) by removing the release paper and rolling the membrane firmly into place. Peel back the release paper in conjunction with the application of the membrane. Ensure the membrane is fully adhered and remove all wrinkles and/or fish mouths. Cut RIGHT BARRIER – 40 MIL membrane with a utility knife to detail around protrusions and masonry reinforcing. Overlap seams at least 2" (5.1 cm). Tightly butt the edges of the membrane and apply RIGHT POINTING MASTIC in all corners. When used as a flexible wall flashing, RIGHT BARRIER – 40 MIL should be recessed 1/2" (13mm) from the face of the masonry wall. Flashing should not be permanently exposed to sunlight. Do not allow the rubberized asphalt surface of the flashing membrane to come in contact with sealants containing solvents, creosote, uncured coal tar products, EPDM, or PVE components.
